Local govts should be serious to end gender based violence: NHRC
Kathmandu, Dec 9: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has shared that a total of 1,275 cases of gender-based violence were registered this year.
However, only, 125 such cases were registered in last fiscal year 2073/074 BS. The NHRC has further stated that the office itself and its partner organizations had provided legal aid to 302 people who reported at the commission over the cases.
The victims could call at 1145 to register such cases to the NHRC offices because of this service such cases were come out.
While releasing a magazine named Sambodhan in the capital today, NHRC chairperson Anup Raj Sharma said that the local governments should be serious and sensitive to end gender-based violence as such cases were on the rise lately.
Similarly, National Women Commission secretary Anil Kumar Thakur said that the Commission was also providing psycho-socio counseling, legal aid, medical treatment to the victims after such incidents were reported to the office.
