Kathmandu, Aug 22  Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the former central member of the party late Bharat Shumsher Rana was a revolutionary leader.  At a programme organized on the 13th day of Rana’s demise at party office on Wednesday, President Deuba reminded that despite being born and raised in aristocrat family, Rana was for an inclusive system.

“I had met leader Rana in Kolkata and he was vocally critical against discriminatory cultures and practices,” he added.Senior leader Rana died in Kolkata at the age of 90. When BP Koirala was the prime minister, he was the leader of major opposition, Gorkha Parisad, in the first parliament.

But, when his party cadres were arrested along with BP Koirala after the royal coup of 1960, Rana unconditionally merged his party with the Nepali Congress. He was the central member of the NC as recent as the time saintly leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was the party President.

On the occasion, Coordinator of Naya Shakti Nepal and former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai reminded that his political career had the influence and inspiration of the books late Rana had written. It was both the need and coincidence that country got Rana who was a brilliant figure, Dr Bhattarai added.

NC senior leader Ramchandra Poudel said the late Rana was the socialist leader fighting against injustice.
Similarly, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic), Pashupati Shumsher Rana, said the late Bharat Shumsher was assertive and bold that was the natural character in the opposition party he led. Bharat Shumsher’s brothers Himalaya Shumsher and Sagar Shumsher viewed that the late Bharat Shumsher was the leader committed to democratic socialism.
