Pokhara, April 28 : Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Chapter on Friday extended an insurance amount to the family of trekking guide Ashok Rai, who died in course of guiding tourists along the Annapurna circuit.

TAAN handed over a cheque of one million rupees to Rai’s family. The trekking group which included four foreigners and four helpers left for Annapurna circuit on January 12. Rai, who was in the group, fell ill at Yak Kharka area of Manang on January 22 and was rushed to Pokhara on a helicopter. He passed away the next day.

TAAN Western Regional Chapter has been providing insurance programme of one million rupees and an emergency rescue on chopper or vehicles for 75 guides and helpers every year.

Chapter’s Chairman Deepak Raj Adhikari handed over the cheque carrying the insurance and said that the agency has been providing immediate and necessary rescue operations on helicopter and vehicles and an insurance of one million rupees for the guides.(RSS)
