Kathmandu, July 12: Roads and highways have been obstructed in several places across the country due to the flooding and mudslides triggered by monsoon downpour since Wednesday.
Banepa – Vehicular movement on the Araniko and BP highways has come to a standstill as the road has been obstructed at some places due to the mudslide and inundation.
Pulbazaar area in Banepa has been inundated as the swollen Punyamata river burst its banks and the Araniko highway is closed for about three hours due to this, Chief of the Area Police Office Banepa, Sunil Jung Shah, said. Houses, shops and sheds in the area are inundated.
Similarly, the BP highway has become obstructed at three or four places due to mudslide or caving in of the land. The highway remains blocked at Kavre Bhanjyang, Mangaltar and other places, according to chief of the District Police Office Kavrepalanchok, Superintendent of Police Rabiraj Khadka.


Sindhuli – The Sindhuli section of the Mid-hill highway remains obstructed due to landslide that occurred at Sunambesi of Sindhuli Fikkal rural municipality-2. It is said the landslide continues at the place making it almost impossible to remove the debris from the road. A police team is on site to remove the debris.
The district administration has urged people living in flood and landslide prone areas in the district to remain alert as it has been raining. All the police units in Sindhuli district have been put on standby in case of emergency.
Phalebas – The Pokhara-Baglung road section has remained obstructed since last night due to landslide near Bhyaplekhola of Bajung at Modi rural municipality-5 in Parbat district. The landslide started around 10 pm on Wednesday following incessant rain. Scores of vehicles have been stranded.
Although efforts are on to remove the landslide debris from the road with the help of dozers since last night, it has become almost impossible to remove the debris as mudslide still continues, police said. The police hope the road would be opened by today afternoon.
Hetauda – Traffic on the Hetauda-Kulekhani section of the Madan Bhandari highway has been halted since the morning today due to the landslide triggered by rain at Phakhel, Burundi and at Suryadanda, Sisneri of Indrasarovar rural municipality. The vehicles are stranded at these two places. A team of technicians with dozer has been despatched to the sites for removing the landslide debris and open the road, Chief District Officer of Makwanpur district, Chakra Bahadur Budha, said. He said the road would be opened by midday today, weather permitting.
