More than 6000 people victims of human rights violation

February 19, 2018: The Human Rights Year Book-2018 has been unveiled during a function in Lalitpur on February 19 by former chief justice Sushila Karki. Meanwhile, the book was released in Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj , Pokhara and Biratnagar at the same time.

“According to INSEC , in 2017, 6,059 people were victims in incidents of human rights violation and atrocities. In 2016, INSEC had documented 4,502 incidents of such violations. The documented incidents are 1,557 more than the last year. This year, 777 people including 86 women were victims by state actor and 5,282 people including 4,579 women were victims by non-state actor. The documented incidents of human rights violation and atrocities by both state and non-state actor are more this year than the last”, said INSEC executive director Bijay Raj Gautam.

He added “In 2017, 11 citizens had lost their lives in a firing by security personnel.  Similarly, this year 7 people were victims of torture, 167 were deprived on their right to assembly and freedom of speech and 79 were victims of beatings. This year, 265 women were victims of rape, 33 of witchcraft allegation, 44 of sexual abuses, 120 of attempted rape, 73 of attempted trafficking and 40 of trafficking”.
