Journalism too needed for country’s prosperity: Minister of State Baskota
Kathmandu, April 5: Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota has said journalism should also contribute to nation’s economic prosperity.
During a meeting of the third national journalism day celebration main organizing committee Wednesday, Minister of State Baskota said journalism could prosper only when the nation prospers, so role of journalism was essential for country’s better future. “Prosperity and good governance should be journalism’s main goals,” he underscored.
Baskota further said the press freedom gained through democracy must be utilized for bringing positive news. Press freedom could be devoted to nation building as well.
He wondered why Nepali media has lost credibility. As the journalism day is the day of all journalists, all should observe it.
On the occasion, Ministry Secretary Kedar Bahadur Adhikari said forthcoming journalism day would focus how the journalism could be taken ahead.
Similarly, General Manager of the National News Agency (RSS), Opendra Sharma, suggested that committee could hold the national journalism day spreading its message to all levels in the society.
The Ministry is marking coming Baisakh 24 as the national journalism day.
