The river area is shrinking and the residential area is increasing
Mahottari, March 14: In Bardibas municipality area of Mahottari district, rivers, streams and wetlands are shrinking and residential area is increasing. The recent public land classification records from the local land use council of Bardibas municipality showed such data.
In the last seven years, the area of Nagyadi, Kholsakholsi and wetlands has decreased by 735 hectares. Such an area which was three thousand six hundred 61 hectares in the year of Vikram Samvat 2072 (2017) has now been limited to two thousand nine hundred 26 during mapping. Mohan Raut, a geologist from Smart City Builders Pvt. Ltd., Nijgarh Bara, said that this area, which was raised due to the construction of dams and embankments in the previous river, Kholsakholsi, has decreased after being used for other purposes.
According to another expert (geologist, engineer) Vishnu Maharjan involved in the classification mapping, the increasing urbanization has increased the residential area. Bardibas Municipality, which was declared as a municipality on 16th November 2071, covering the then Bardibas, Kisannagar, Maisthan and Gauribas gavis, before the 2074 election, the former Hathilet, Vijalpura, Pashupatinagar and Khayarmara gavis were also included. There are 14 wards in the city.
