Govt.’s attention drawn towards relief and rescue of landslide and flood victims
Kathmandu, July 12: The parliamentarians have drawn attention of the government to take initiatives for relief and rescue operations immediately, saying that landslides and floods affected normal life of people and obstructed vehicular movements across the nation.
Speaking in special hour of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmakers complained that although the Disaster Management Act was formulated last year, it has not come into force after being failed to turn the act into regulation.
They suggested the government to mobilize government and non-government offices in an appropriate way for disaster management as dozens of settlements have been waterlogged in Kathmandu Valley, many people have lost their lives and bridges have been swept away across the nation due to incessant rainfalls.
On the occasion, Mahesh Basnet briefed the House that three members of a single family died at Changunarayan Municipality-7, Bhaktapur district and various areas including Radhe Radhe, Balkot and Naya Basti have been waterlogged due to last night’s heavy rainfall.
Saying rescue operation was underway with collective efforts of people’s representatives of local-level, security personnel and locals, he urged the government to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and ensure relief to landslide and flood victims.
Basnet also thanked the security personnel and locals involved in rescue and relief task from last night.
Similarly, Prem Suwal claimed that the problem of inundation was surfaced for failure to adopt preventive measures as the settlements were waterlogged due to human encroachment while Amanlal Modi stressed that the government should take effective step to control landslide and flood as well as to provide relief to flood-hit victims immediately.
Urging the government to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC, lawmaker Anil Kumar Jha, argued that the problem of agriculture mills of Rautahat district should be addressed immediately.
Likewise, Rajendra Lingden complained for boycotting the fringe parties in Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee while Pradeep Giri said that the government took Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University, Kul Prasad Koirala, under control illegally from Tribhuvan International Airport adding that such act of the government has violated the right to move freely.
Similarly, Dilendra Badu, Mohan Baniya, Hari Narayan Rauniyar, Nar Bahadur Dhami, Sarita Giri and LP Sawa, among others also drew government’s attention towards national issues.
Meanwhile, the meeting also unanimously passed the proposal seeking consideration on ‘Audit Bill-2075’.
Lawmakers Bharat Kumar Shah and Prem Suwal expressed their views on the bill presented by Finance Minister Dr Yubraj Khatiwada.
Putting forth his view on the bill, Finance Minister Dr Khatiwada said that the government has made new legal arrangements with an intention to carry out audit in an effective manner.
Although an agenda was set to present the Medical Education Bill-2075 BS in today’s HoR meeting, it was removed in the last hour. The HoR will meet at 1:00 pm on July 15.
