January 2, Kathmandu. After a series of incidents involving Tata’s Nexon EV rolling over and catching fire during charging, it has come to light that MG’s EV also experienced a fire a few days ago. The incident was disclosed on Tuesday, nine days after the MG EV fire, with police reports indicating that the fire occurred while the car was in the charging process.

According to the police, the fire broke out in Budhanilkanth, Kathmandu, where the EV registered as Bagmati Province 01-027 Ch 1581 was being charged. The police stated that on the night of January 9, the car caught fire while parked at Sudeep Lamichhane’s residence.

Upon police arrival, it was observed that the car was completely burnt. On the same night, the police took action by preparing charges against the vehicle owner and the company representative. However, representatives from Paramount Motors, the distributor of MG in Nepal, have not issued any statements regarding the incident.

Numerous complaints have been voiced by individuals citing issues with EVs, with some abandoning their vehicles on the road and documenting their experiences on social media. Despite the growing market presence of EVs in Nepal, concerns have been raised about deceptive claims by company representatives, who assert that a car with a range of 100 km can actually cover 200 km. Consumers, particularly those outside the Kathmandu Valley or urban areas, report facing various problems on a daily basis.
