Nepal ready to help in peace process of Myanmar
Kathmandu, Oct 5: A Myanmar delegation led by Lieutenant General Yar Pyae, Chairperson, Head of the Myanmar Joint Monitoring Committee Union Level on Ceasefire (JMC-U) held a meeting with Foreign Minister, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
The delegation included Lieutenant General Ye Aung, Minister of Border Affairs of the Republic of Myanmar and members of JMC-U representing major stakeholders from government, civil society and armed groups.
During the meeting, Minister Gyawali shed light on four major aspects of peace process in Nepal. He briefly informed about the background to the conflict, evolution on the steps followed that led to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the modality adopted by Nepal in concluding home grown peace process, reads a press statement issued Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Responding to the several queries from the members of the delegation, Minister Gyawali also highlighted the lessons learnt from the overall peace process and shared his personal experiences as well.
He assured the delegation that Nepal was ready to provide any help they may need in their efforts to bring lasting peace in their country, saying that every conflict was specific and it demands specific solutions, reads the statement.
Similarly, the members of the delegation expressed their interest to take Nepal’s peace process as a reference in the ongoing peace process of Myanmar.
Present on the occasion were Tapas Adhikari, Joint Secretary and the Head of SEAP Division, Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Under Secretary, Ram Singh Thapa, Under Secretary and Bhuwan Prasad Bhatta, Section Officer at the Ministry.
Similarly, Thiri Pyanchi U Tun Nay Linn, Ambassador of the Republic of Myanmar to Nepal was also present on the occasion.
The Myanmar delegation is in Kathmandu to study Nepal’s peace process in order to draw lessons for the peace process in Myanmar. (RSS)
