Minister Banskota returns home from South Korea

Kathmandu, Sept 16 : Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has taken his recent visit to South Korea as achievement in the exchange of assistance for the advancement of the information and technology of Nepal.

Talking to media-persons at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return today from participating in the ministerial level meeting on “People’s Culture Centre Digital Development’ in South Korea (Republic of Korea), the Minister said the meeting discussed the issues relating to mutual cooperation between Nepal and South Korea in tackling challenges emerged lately in world’s modern information technology.

Communications Ministers from 12 countries of the Asia Pacific Region had participated in the meeting. He went on to say that the society should be well informed about the issues like ‘big data’ and artificial ‘intelligence’ appearing as the new forms of modern information technology and the meeting also discussed mutual cooperation towards that end.

Access to IT, its use for their income generation and IT security among others were discussed during the meeting, as the Minister said. The meeting also focused on leading the society towards modernisation in terms of the development of digital technology by protecting social norms, values and culture.

During the course of visit, the Communications and Information Minister had a meeting with You Young Min, the Republic of Korea’s Minister for Science and ICT. According to him, the South Korea seemed positive in terms of lending assistance to further expand and strengthen the Nepal’s ‘Data Centers’.

The meeting went through positive discourses on exchange of knowledge to face increasing challenges in cyber security and mutual cooperation in the areas of capital, technology and knowledge for digital literacy, Minister added. “Important announcements were made for IT cooperation and the bilateral talks with the Korean side were beneficial for Nepal.”(RSS)
