COVID-19 response by Jcycn

Kathmandu, June 12 : As the entire world is gripped by the pandemic of COVID-19, Nepal is no exception. As of June 12, 8:42 am there are 4614 persons infected by COVID-19 in Nepal. Out of total cases, 861 have recovered, 3738 persons are in isolation and fatalities are 15. 117937 PCR test and 178143 RDT test have been done among which 11323 PCR test resulted negative and 162013 persons are staying in quarantine.

Quarantine centres and temporary hospitals, laboratory facilities are being upgraded and are being setup across the country and most of them needs to be upgraded. However, shortage of PPE and equipment as well as limited access to supplies such as gloves, medical masks, respirators, goggles, face shields, gowns, and aprons equipment throughout the country is making health workers and other frontline workers dangerously ill-equipped and vulnerable to care for COVID-19 patients.

Jcycn in total did the expenses amounting Rs. 60 Lakhs including the phase I and phase II .Jcycn  on its first phase reached at least 2400 affected people responding COVID-19 lockdown in Nagarjun Municipality Kathmandu, Bagmati Rural Municipality Lalitpur, Devchuli Municipality Nawalparasi – East and Uttargaya Rural Municipality Rasuwa with food support in very close collaboration with the offices of the respective municipals and coordinating partners.

Jcycn in collaboration with Kanallan- Switzerland in its second phase of COVID-19 response reached various municipals and health institutions including Uttargaya Rural Municipality Rasuwa, Kawasoti Municipality Nawalparasi-East, Namobuddha Municipality Kavre, Bihadi Rural Municipality Parbat, Parbat District Hospital Parbat, Baudikali Rural Municipality Nawalparasi-East, Bulingtar Rural Municipality Nawalparasi- East, Tansen Municipality Palpa, Nisdi Rural Municipality Palpa, Madhyabindu District Hospital Nawalparasi- East, Sarumarani Rural Municipality Pyuthan, Hupsekot Rural Municipality Nawalparasi- East, Sanga Health Post Kavre, Bijayanagar Rural Municipality Kapilvastu, Yashodhara Rural Municipality Kapilvastu, Lumbini Eye Institute Rupandehi, Syuchatar Healthpost of Nagarjun Municipality KTM, Devchuli Municipality Nawalparasi- East, Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality Rupandehi, Gaidahawa Rural Municipality Rupandehi, Binaya Triveni Rural Municipality  Nawalparasi- East , covering 9 districts of Nepal.

 Jcycn in total provided 810 packets of Top Gloves,647.5 litre of hand sanitizer, 100 packets of surgical gloves, 380 PPE sets,380 packets of paper mask, 168 pcs of infrared thermometer,147.5 packets of KN-95 masks and also food support for 25 households with warm collaboration with their well-wishers and partners in the ground especially FOWEP Kavre, Lumbini Development Forum Rupandehi, Indreni Samaj Kendra Palpa, and Siddhartha Social Development Center Kapilvastu.

Jcycn contributed a cash support to a four years girl child of Myagdi District who lost both hands due to the electric short and was facilitated to send home after the treatment.

Similarly, Dozens of appeals for the human rights protection especially of Children and Youth have been prepared and circulated in collaboration with the national level of network such as HAMI, NGO Federation, Forum Asia, National Child Friendly Local Government Forum(NCFLG Forum), National Coalition For Girls Rights and SPCSN have been issued. Frequent Nepal’s situation reports, flyers on COVID-19 have been prepared form the side of Jcycn and circulated to various stakeholders, social and mainstream online media have been mobilized through integrated video message, radio interviews, and articles and awareness about online safety have also been spread through online medias.

The peer educators of Jcycn under Girls Empowerment Program in Nawalparasi-East have been spreading awareness video through online to tackle with the recent situation of COVID-19 .

As advocacy gives people a voice in the decisions, Jcycn is involved in the advocacy level by attending the high level policy meeting with the bodies of Government including National Youth Council, NACG, Human Right Commission, Ministry of Children, Women and Senior Citizen, National Child Right Council.

The cases of violence and murder is found increasing in number during this lockdown where Jcycn has  involved itself in the advocacy to reduce Gender Based Violence, Child Marriage, Rape, and Violence and also for the child friendly Quarantine Centers, Hospitals and Isolation and also on social protection.

Migrant workers in different countries of the world are willing to come to their motherland,  Nepal for which Jcycn have been attending the meetings to give suggestions about the quarantine facilities to be maintained and to ensure their safety.
