Teenage girls commit suicide by consuming poison

Gaushala, May 22 : Two teenage girls have committed suicide by consuming poison here at Balawa municipality – 1 of Mahottari district.

16 – year old Khusi Kumari Chaudhary, daughter of Raju Chaudhary from Banchauri village, and 15 – year – old Chandani Kumari Jha took their lives on Monday evening following a dispute at home, according to District Police Office, Mahottari.

The two best friends had gone to a worship ceremony at a neighbour’s house and returned home with Prasad (an offering made to God and later eaten as a sign of blessing). When their mother scolded them for remaining absent for too long, the girls went to the marketplace and purchased Selfas – a chemical compound used in paddy field – and consumed it in a garden, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kuber Kadayat said.

The two were found unconscious in the garden in the evening. They were rushed to Zonal Hospital in Janakpur by family members and neighbours where they died in course of treatment. The girls’ bodies will be handed over to their families after autopsy.

Pistol, marijuana and bullets recovered

Police have seized two quintals of marijuana, pistol and bullets in Ajamarpatti of Ekdara rural municipality – 3.

District Police Office, Mahottari’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Kuber Kadayat, said the police raided the private residences of Jitendra Kumar Mandal and Chun Chun Devi Mandal at ward no 3 and came across one quintal and 86 kilograms of marijuana. The police seized one automatic pistol and three rounds of bullets from Chun Chun Devi’s house.

The police crackdown came in wake of a tip-off that the two were involved in trading marijuana. Police are yet to arrest the two as they were not at home during the raid. (RSS)
