NRB directives for ensuring Nepali language option in ATM
Kathmandu, May 20. Holders of banking and financial institutes Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) cards are facing problems as such machines, though not all, do not have an option of Nepali language. Bearing this in mind, the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the country’s central bank, has urged all banks and financial institutions to ensure the easy access and use of Nepali language for ATM transactions, for convenience of users.
However, the ATMs of Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) have this option. The directive came today shall come into effect within the next 30 days. The NRB, the Payment System Department, has stated that any party defying the directive shall face action as per the Payment and Clearance Act, 2075 BS.
According to the NRB, 4 million 71 thousand regularly use ATM services nationwide while 5 million 960 thousand have acquired the ATM cards and the number of its users are on the rise.
