Dr Pokharel, Dhakal bag ‘Gopal-Kamala Rajbhandari Rotary Award for Vocation Excellence, 2019’
Kathmandu, May 20. Dr Birendra Raj Pokharel and Bishwas Dhakal have jointly won ‘Gopal-Kamala Rajbhandari Rotary Award for Vocation Excellence 2019’ for contributing to the sector of information and technology.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari presented the award to the duo amid a programme here on Monday. Established by the Rotary International District 3292, the award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 million.
Dr Pokharel was honoured for introducing a technology facilitating blind people read through a computer and an android mobile phone from Japan. Pokharel is a blind himself. Likewise, Dhakal associated with F1Soft Group was honoured for his efforts to develop technologies like financial technology and mobile banking. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Tham Maya Thapa praised social and welfare work of the Rotary.
Earlier Dr Ramkantha Makaju Shrestha, chairperson of the Dhulikhel Hospital, former Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Dr Suresh Raj Sharma, cultural expert Satya Mohan Joshi and chairperson of the Prisoners Assistance Nepal Indira Rana Magar won the award.
