Govt not in favour of passing citizenship bill as it is: NCP Spokesperson Shrestha
Kathmandu, May 20. Spokesperson for ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Monday stated that the government is not in favour of endorsing the citizenship bill as it is. “Citizenship issue is related to nationality. Discussions are ongoing on the bill. Conclusion may come. But it will not be passed as it is,” he said speaking at an interaction programme with the theme of ‘promotion of nationality and issue of citizenship card’ held on the occasion of the 25th establishment day of the Confederation of Nepalese Professionals (CONEP).
NCP leader Shrestha stressed the need for bringing international non-governmental organisations under the government’s single umbrella and making development activities transparent. On the occasion, NCP standing committee member BhimRawal said the citizenship issue related to nationality should be dealt with seriously.
Likewise, NCP leader SadhyaBahadurBhandari, senior advocate BishwakantaMainali and chairperson of the CONEP BishwanathPyakurel stressed the need for holding a massive discussion on the bill before passing it.
