Scholarships for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies in Music in Australia

July 22 Kathmandu. Excelsia College, Sydney, held its 7th auditions for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in music in Australia. College representative Bobby Ibrahim said on Monday that the auditions provide an extraordinary opportunity for Nepali students who want to pursue higher education in music in Australia.

Among the one hundred and twenty participating students, the chief guest, Australian Ambassador Felicity Volk, expressed her good wishes. While the promotion of other subjects is prevalent, the promotion of music is not as prominent. Ibrahim noted that the auditions, which Excelsia College has been organizing for the past seven years, are suitable for the target students.

Since its inception in 1983, Excelsia College has enthusiastically promoted higher education in the arts. The college’s mission, having continuously produced talented individuals through various prestigious musical programs, is to turn passion into a profession. The college aims to provide artists with the skills necessary to advance in their careers.

Over the past seven years, many Nepali students have graduated from Excelsia College and succeeded in making their mark in the music world. The 7th audition, held in collaboration with EduQuest Nepal, targeted students who want to pursue graduate studies in music in Australia. Today, July 22nd, the audition was held at Purple Haze Rock Bar in Thamel.

During the audition, young artists showcased their talents and had the chance to win scholarships of up to 15,000 Australian dollars. The college provided scholarships of up to 15,000 Australian dollars for three years for undergraduate studies and 6,000 Australian dollars for two years for postgraduate studies.

Participants competed in various categories, including guitar, drums, piano, flute, and vocals. Students aged 18 to 23 years participated in the audition. Eligibility required passing class 12, holding a diploma, or graduating in music from Kathmandu University or Tribhuvan University.

Class 12 graduates needed to have basic knowledge of music. Band performances were considered as a single participation, while individual performers underwent separate evaluations. The judges of the audition were Dr. Lotte Latukefu, head of the performing arts department at Excelsia College, and Swapnil Sharma, the lead vocalist of The Shadows Nepal and Swara.
