Dr Jha receives ‘Xian Friendship Award’- 2018

Kathmandu, Nov 6 : The Xian Government of China has honoured Prof Dr Rajib Kumar Jha with the “Xian Friendship Award” for the year 2018.

A total of 10 people from different countries including Jha have received the biannual award along with the ‘Xian Excellent Foreign Expert Award’ to be presented by the Xian Government of Shaanxi Province in China. Other awardees are from Germany, Malaysia, Brazil, the US, Japan (two), Yemen and Croatia.

The award carries a purse of 50,000 RMB each was announced some two months ago and Jha is the first Nepali to bag the award that has been being presented since 2009. Xian governor Lu Jian on Monday presented the award to them amidst a ceremony in Xian city.

The award is presented to foreign talents on the recognition of their special contributions to the China’s economic, social and international relations by residing in Xian, according to Dr Jha. The ten are selected for the award from among around 10,000 University teachers, researchers, doctors and business community in Xian. Dr Jha is a professor at the Xian University. He completed PhD and Post-doc on reducing the effect of bile duct cancer.

The university has also been facilitating the experience exchange among the doctors from the two countries. Prof Jha has been living in China for the last 22 years. He is also a visiting professor in various universities in China.

The Shanxi province had appointed him as the Civic Ambassador in recognition of his significant role in promoting Nepal-China relations. The province also appointed him the envoy looking after all programmes to be implemented in Nepal under the One Belt One Road initiative.(RSS)
