Govt to amend laws to carry out change in communications sector: Minister Sharma
Kathmandu, Feb 27: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said the government adopted the policy of law amendment so as to make people feel a change in the communications sector. Although the Nepali society has moved this far following political changes, there are still some laws from the Panchayat era.
So, there is a need to amend laws, she said, adding that she was focused on making new laws to keep up with the new constitution. The minister was inspecting the office of the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal (ACORAB) here today. Pointing out historic roles of the country’s radios in making changes and creating awareness, the minister, also the government’s spokesperson, stressed the need for them to focus on quality instead of quantity.
She also urged media to disseminate news materials that help implement the law so as to end evil social practices like polygamy, untouchability and crimes. The minister also inspected the office of the Community Information Network. On the occasion, ACORAB Chairperson Arjun Giri handed a memorandum to the minister urging her to facilitate in operating community radio by making federal laws.
