Kathmandu, Sept 21 : The government has decided to announce the projects to be supported by the US Millennium Challenge Corporation as the national pride project.

The US government as per the Millennium Challenge Corporation has provided Rs 50 billion to Nepal for the implementation of the projects relating to the energy and transportation.

The Cabinet meeting held Friday night decided to enlist the project of transmission line from Lapsefedi of Kathmandu to Galchhi Ratmate of Dhading and the Damauli-Butwal project in the national pride project, said Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Baskota.

Similarly, Upper Arun Hydropower Project would be set up as the assisting company of Nepal Electricity Authority.

The government made some amendments on the existing provision on formation of the commission of solving the problems relating to freed kamaiyas and haliyas.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has been given approval in principle to formulate the federal tourism law.

Similar approval has been given to the Ministry for drafting the act on operation and regulation of civil aviation authority.

The work procedure on the operation of local infrastructure development partnership programme has been approved by the Cabinet.

The Ministry of the Federal Affairs and General Administration has been asked to depute the employees who currently do not belong to any category and posts as per the Employee Adjustment Act 2074.

Moreover, the meeting also approved the working procedure to operate international air service by the private sector. Directive related to foreign visits of office-bearers and employees of local-level-2075 was approved.

The government also approved Electronic Correspondence Directives-2075 with an objective of creating environment conducive for easy and smooth electronic correspondence in government bodies.

The meeting appointed Yubraj Subedi to the post of Chairperson of Cooperatives Management Committee.

Likewise, it was decided to provide Rs one million to the family of Khurdis Alam of Sunsari by declaring him a martyr, added Minister Baskota. Alam was killed by a criminal group.

A think tank would be set up having prominent figures including Prof Dr Chaitanya Mishra, Dr Mina Acharya, Prof Dr Rajendra Dhoj Joshi, Surendra Labh and Ganeshman Gurung.

Similarly, a council on the promotion of commerce and industrial sector would be set up under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Minister Baskota further said the discussion was also held regarding the US visit of Prime Minister Oli scheduled from tomorrow. PM Oli is leaving for the US on Saturday to address the 73rd session of UN General Assembly, leading a Nepali delegation.(RSS)
