Kathmandu, Aug 17 Radio Nepal, the state broadcaster, has gone global with the launching of its mobile app today.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota launched the app amidst a function held at the Radio Nepal in Singha Durbar. The app can be used in android version of mobile phone to listen to Radio Nepal.

Addressing the function, Minister Banskota expressedthe belief that Radio Nepal’s mobile app would prove helpful in making public the government’s official matters.

“Radio Nepal should disseminate positive messages not negative ones. Misleading issues are short-lived. This institution represents the nation. Therefore, it should disseminate the right information of all and not only that of the government,” the Minister said.

Radio Nepal’s executive director Suresh Kumar Karki said the mobile apps is mainly useful for those who have no access to Radio Nepal’s transmission services. But an access to internet service is necessary to use the apps where audio clips dating three years back are available. Presently, the Radio Nepal provides its services in 21 languages and there are demands for increasing languages from some provinces.

Deputy executive director Ashok Baskota said the mobile apps was developed at a cost of Rs 500,000. According to him, they plan to conduct a technical survey to find out the exact of number of Radio Nepal listeners. It is entering into a digital technology soon. Another apps based on the IOS technology is coming soon for the users of iphone.
