House deferred due to obstructions from main opposition
Kathmandu, July 16: Today’s session of the House of Representatives could not take place due to the obstructions from the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC).
On the very onset of the meeting, NC lawmakers stood from their respective seats, accusing the government of not becoming serious towards the demands put forth by agitating senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC.
Pushpa Bhusal accused the government of being apathetic to the issues and making no concrete step to hold talks with him. She informed the House that the NC could not support it continue the session when the life of Dr KC is at risk.
In response to her remarks, Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the issues had already entered the Parliament and the government is serious about the concerns of Dr KC. He called on the NC lawmakers let the House run so that the government could put its views on the matter. But the lawmakers from the opposition party were not convinced by the Speaker’s call and refused to take their seats, forcing the Speaker to announce the adjournment of the session.
The Lower House shall meet again at 1:00 pm on July 19.
