Master’s programme in Public Policy introduced in KU
Kathmandu, July 3: A new Master’s programme in Public Policy wasintroduced in Kathmandu University (KU) to be started from 2019.
This discipline will be incorporated in the studies of Humanities, Management and Law, it was shared at a programme organized by KU and Institute for Integrated Development Studies in Dhulikhel today.
The course will take its first students from the beginning of 2019 aiming to encourage students better strategic planning and learning techniques of bringing into effect the policies that are necessary for the thematic Ministries, according to KU.
The course to be conducted in four semesters and a thematic training will be held aiming to equip policy makers of future with the tools to make long term thinking, informed and effective decisions.
Speaking at the programme, lawmaker Gagan Thapa argued that the lack of understanding towards the importance of public policy at the policy making level was reflected in the good governance and development. He pointed out the need to strengthen the public policy in order to consolidate democracy.
Similarly, National Planning Commission former Vice-President Dr Swarnim Wagle underscored the need for effective public policy for the government to timely address the public interests.
Likewise, American Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B Teplitz suggested to strengthen the public policy in the local level at the time when the country is bringing the federalism into implementation.
KU’s Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramkantha Kamaju Shrestha expressed his confidence that the studies of public policy would contributes towards sustainable development.
